DIVERSITY
Building Stronger Together
Diversity and inclusion aren’t just words for us. They are core values that guide how we are building a stronger union.
At the CMRCC, we’re not all the same and that is one of our greatest strengths. To build strong we draw on the differences between who we are, our life experiences and how we think.
We know through experience that different ideas, perspectives and background create a stronger and more diverse work environment. With 35,000 unique perspectives working toward a common goal, WE ARE STRONGER.
Our mission and vision reflect our essential belief that all people belong and deserve fairness and inclusivity. We celebrate the visible and invisible qualities that make each member unique.
Our approach to diversity is simple – we embrace everyone. We hire the best, give them superior training and the tools needed to build stronger communities. Our diversity empowers us to be fearless in this approach.

HELMETS TO HARDHATS
You put yourself on the line for your country. And we at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters are proud to be among the first to thank you by offering a rewarding and satisfying career via the UBC Helmets to Hardhats Partnership.
Helmets to hardhats helps military service members successfully transition back into civilian life by offering them the means to secure a quality career in the construction industry. This is a federally-approved apprenticeship program, meaning you can use your Montgomery G.I. Bill benefits to supplement your income.
Two organizations – one goal: Present great career choices for those who put their lives on hold to protect their homeland. The UBC’s Helmets to Hardhats program provides our nation’s military veterans with challenging careers in carpentry and a source of security for them and their family in the form of healthcare, retirement and financial stability.
Military veterans are familiar with a structured learning environment, unpredictable weather conditions, and desire to serve the community. Based on your military occupation code, you can leverage training and work related experience during your time in the service to achieve advanced placement in our apprenticeship program. With an honorable discharge, veterans can be working on a jobsite as soon as six weeks.

The Helmets to Hardhats program helps vets get back to work quickly at the CMRCC. Because of their background in the military, veterans often have the characteristics our contractors find most desirable, including punctuality, dependability and a strong work ethic.
The veterans featured in this video exemplify all the reasons why the Carpenters Union actively seeks Helmets to Hardhats participants. Check out the stories of some of our amazing veterans & the great work they are doing building their communities.

SISTERS IN THE BROTHERHOOD
Every day, thousands of women play a critical role in making the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America the best union in North America.
UBC women are in every area of the trade and the union: as foremen, superintendents and lead instructors; on the staff of Councils and locals; and, of course, on jobsites–as carpenters on all kinds of projects, millwrights fine-tuning turbines, pile drivers, floor layers, and mill-cab and industrial workers.
Sisters in the Brotherhood supports female members by providing assistance in obtaining craft training and leadership skills; by being advocates on women’s issues; and by mentoring new members and even potential members. SIB events, meetings, and resources, both local and online, offer substantive support for women members in every Council.
SIB encourages women to participate in training, develop their skills and job performance, and value productivity and leadership. With those efforts, today’s Sisters in the Brotherhood is building a better trade and a stronger, more effective UBC.
Our UBC sisters love building their futures with a career as carpenters, millwrights, and floorlayers. In this video, UBC sisters share the joys and challenges of working in the industry.
The UBC International Sisters in the Brotherhood Committee (SIB) offers opportunities to network and participate in workshops that expose women to UBC history and develop skills to become more active within the union. SIB events, meetings, and resources, both local and online, offer substantive support for women members in every Council. If you have the drive and the can-do attitude to become a true professional, consider becoming a member of the UBC.
